In 1984, the 3rd National Chopin Piano Competition was chaired by American pianist, Malcolm Frager, winner of the 1960 Queen Elisabeth Competition. Other jurors (pictured left to right, top row down) included Dean Elder, American pianist/writer; Nelson Freire, the great Brazilian pianist; Michael Colgrass, Pulitzer Prize winning American Composer; Mark P. Malkovich III, impresario and director of the Newport Music Festival; Soulima Stravinsky,Swiss-American pianist, composer and musicologist; Stephen Simon, American conductor, composer, and arranger; and Charles Wadsworth, American pianist, harpsichordist and music promoter. Conductor, Sidney Rothstein (pictured bottom right) conducted the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra during the Competition finals.
