1988 Roland-Garros Championships

Pierre Alechinsky’s style of graphic experimentation, his use of thick black lines reminiscent of the Japanese calligraphy that fascinated him since the 1950s, application of thick paint and rich colors, and surrounding a central image with a frame of anecdotal sketches, are all showcased in the artwork created for the 1988 tournament.
