After missing out on qualification in 1991 England travelled to Sweden to compete in a FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in 1995.

On 10 June England beat Nigeria 3-2 to finish second in Group B thanks to a brace from Karen Farley and a goal from Karen Walker. The attendance was a capacity crowd of 1,843 at the Tingvalla Idrottsplats stadium in Karlstad, Sweden.

England’s win over Nigeria, paired with a 3-2 victory over Canada four days earlier, were enough to see the Lionesses progress to the quarter-finals, where they were beaten 3-0 by eventual runners-up Germany.
