During the summer months, the manja is used to sun dry grains like wheat, pulses like moong (green gram) or uncooked sewaiyan (wheat noodles) used in the preparation of sweet dishes during large gatherings or festive occasions. This is done by laying a cloth on the manja over which the food items are spread out.
