Flounce

In the late 19th century a marked interest developed in traditional or regional lace styles, with government backing for industries to support local communities, and a growing middle class interest in fancy work including peasant-style lace.

One of the areas where the industry was important was the Erzgebirge region of Saxony and Bohemia, now part of Germany and the Czech Republic. It received government promotion in the 1870s and 1880s, making mostly torchon lace (a form of lace with simple geometric patterns, and a mesh ground) on the Saxon side, and tape lace like this flounce on the Bohemian.
