Pirri jacket detail

Easton Pearson

Museum of Brisbane

Museum of Brisbane
Brisbane City, Australia

This jacket features a contrast wool appliqué on the sleeves, hand tacked with the edges left raw. The natural raffia embroidery is needle stitched using zardoshi work, forming wheat sheaf and floral borders. Zardoshi is an opulent form of Indian embroidery encompassing a variety of needlework and traditional techniques, mostly passed from father to son with secrecy.
