Because of the potential explosive dangers of large volumes of hydrogen, bubble chamber buildings were of specially light construction. The fierce winds of 6 February (gusting up to 130 km/h) took advantage of this and stripped away large sections of the building housing the 3.7 m European bubble chamber, BEBC. Fortunately, apart from the building, very little damage was caused.
