PUBLIC SKATE PARK
GRATOSOGLIO DISTRICT, MILAN
GratoBowl is not just a public skate park in concrete cast in situ and technically unique in Italy. It is part of a participatory process for regenerating the central space of one of Milan’s outer suburbs. The project began in September 2014, with site inspections to check the status of the old La Rampa skate park, the first built in
the 90s in Milan. Thanks to cooperation between the council, a skaters’ association and neighbourhood committees, the idea grew up of experimenting with something new: to demolish the old structure, but take over the original plan and supplement it by creating a new 3-level bowl unique in the panorama of Italian public facilities. To complete the regeneration of the grassy area next to the skate park a new playground was designed, removing barriers and breaking with stereotypes. In October 2015 it was inaugurated, in a city, Milan, which is increasingly becoming an open-air gym.
