PUBLIC BUILDING FOR CULTURE AND FUN
CALTRON, CLES, TRENTO
The winning project in the competition by invitation open to designers under 35 led to the construction of the new social house at Caltron in Cles (Trentino).
This is a meeting place for the inhabitants, where children, young people, adults and seniors can meet, discuss and together develop a community identity where life stories intersect. The functions are designed with this aim, both for children and the elderly, and are accessible to all. The new building forms a link between the historic town and the rural landscape. At the same time it sets a boundary to the expansion of the town and so curbs indiscriminate land use. All the architectural choices in this building are based on its important social role and on the particular context in which it is set. The building is proportioned to its setting, ensuring continuity with the urban fabric of the small town. It is contemporary architecture that becomes part of the landscape, a familiar presence for the local inhabitants.
