This type of sarong is worn by aristocratic Burmese women. It is formed by stitching long fabric together at both ends to form a tube shape. Various countries in Southeast Asian consider white elephants to be a sign of good luck, portending peace and prosperity. Images of elephants, peacocks, and a mythical beast are woven into the upper and lower sections. This mythological creature, referred to by locals as chinthe,is said to be a combination of a qilin, dragon, and lion.
