Billfold owned by Ernestine Unger Wiesenthal when she escaped from Nazi Germany to England in 1939. The billfold originally belonged to her husband, Otto, a physician, who passed away in Berlin in 1930. Not long after Hitler came to power in 1933, Ernestine's son, Fritz, began planning to relocate his family to another country. In 1938, Fritz left for the United States in order to make living arrangements for his wife, his two daughters, 17 year old Illa, and 8 year old Nellie, and Ernestine. He sent for Illa that fall and Nellie and her mother arrived by the spring of 1939. Ernestine left Berlin for England in 1939 and reached the US in 1942.
