Magnificent mineral specimens were showcased on four 29-cent Minerals commemorative stamps issued September 17, 1992, in the Baird Auditorium of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC. The Minerals stamps feature blue azurite, golden copper, green variscite, and orange-red wulfenite. This stamp is one of the four.

Designed by Leonard Buckley, the stamps were printed by the offset/intaglio process by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and issued in panes of forty.
