The Thousand departed from Quarto near Genoa on the night between the 5th and 6th May 1860 and landed in Marsala on May 11th, having crossed the Tyrrhenian Sea on board two steamboats, the Piemonte and the Lombardo, belonging to the Rubattino Company.
