Stephanie Kurlow, 14, aspires to become the first professional hijabi ballerina in the world. She was photographed in her family’s backyard in Sydney, Australia.

Biography:
Edwina Pickles is a staff photographer for The Sydney Morning Herald from 2000 to present. She has a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the University of Sydney (1998) and attended Sydney College of the Arts. Her most recent award is the United Nations Association of Australia Media Peace Award (2015), Best Photojournalism, for her work in Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya. Edwina has been a finalist for many portrait photographic awards in Australia, including Head On, the Moran and the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards. She is a Sydney born photographer who is interested in environmental portraiture and documenting Australian life.
