Erroll Garner, born in 1921, composed more than 200 works without ever learning to read or annotate music. He began playing by ear at the age of three and throughout his life, could perform any piece of music he had heard once. "Misty," which became the title song of the 1971 Clint Eastwood film "Play Misty For Me," was Garner's best-known composition. He also wrote the often-recorded "La Petite Mambo," "Dreamy," "Solitaire," and "Nightwind." His album "Concert by the Sea" is regarded as a landmark work and is one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time.
