The Postal Service honored Padre Felix Varela with the issuance of a 32-cent commemorative stamp on September 15, 1997, in Miami, Florida.
The stamp features a portrait of a great humanitarian, Padre Felix Varela (1788-1853), who spent his life supporting human rights and giving aid to the sick and poor.
Designed by Carl Herrman of Laguna Niguel, California, and illustrated by Keith Birdsong of Muskogee, Oklahoma, the stamps were printed in panes of twenty by Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., in the offset process,
