This ninth stamp in the Legends of Hollywood Series honors actress Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn appeared in nearly thirty movies, often starring in romantic comedies but venturing into several dramatic roles as well. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, she brought attention to humanitarian causes through her work as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. In 1992, Hepburn was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and, in 1993, she received a Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild; that same year she was posthumously awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, an honorary Academy Award.
The Postal Service issued a 37-cent Audrey Hepburn commemorative stamp in a pressure- sensitive adhesive pane of twenty stamps on June 11, 2003, in Los Angeles, California. The stamp was designed by Michael J. Deas, Brooklyn Heights, New York.
Sennett Security Products printed the stamp in the gravure process.
