39c Kwanzaa stamp

Kwanzaa is an African-American holiday symbolizing the need for a harmonious and principled togetherness in the family, the neighborhood, the nation, and the world. The seven guiding principles that Kwanzaa celebrates are unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

The Postal Service issued a 39-cent Kwanzaa special stamp on October 6, 2006, in New York, New York during the Mega Stamp Show. The stamp was design by Derry Noyes of Washington, DC, and was previously issued with a 37-cent denomination in 2004.

Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., printed the 40 million stamps in the offset/microprint "USPS" process.
