Board game:Halma

Harvard surgeon George Howard Monks invented the board game Halma around 1883, based on an earlier English game called Hoppity. Halma enjoyed great popularity at the time and continued to be popular, especially in Germany. Later, a German star-shaped variation of Halma, "Stern-Halma" (literally: star Halma) inspired a new American game branded with the more exotic-sounding "Chinese Checkers." Though the game was neither Chinese nor a version of checkers, it has endured to present times. A pre-World War I version of Halma from Germany, manufactured by the games manufacturer Klee, demonstrates the popularity of the game in that country.
