The board game Parcheesi enjoyed great popularity during the late 19th century in America. Various manufacturers brought out their own versions, under different titles. A reference to India, or similar recognizeable imagery on the cover, seemed to sell the games. Clark & Sowdon's version, Chessindia, featured elephants and a pageant on the box cover.
