For 3Abschied, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has joined up with Jérôme Bel, the French choreographer who appeared at the 2007 edition of the Holland Festival with his Pichet Klunchun & Myself. The starting point in 3Abschied is The Farewell, the heart wrenching finale to Gustav Mahler’s Lied von der Erde, which also played a central role in De Keersmaekers’ choreography Keeping Still. De Keersmaeker and Bel are determined to give their all to transform into dance the wisdom and stillness that are so masterly conveyed in Mahler’s Farewell. The music is performed live by the Ictus ensemble and mezzo soprano Ursula Hesse von den Steinen.
