From 1903 to 1907 Prussia purchased 450 3rd class four-axle compartment coaches for their express trains. The railway was the most important means for long-distance transport. For this reason, some coaches were equipped with a medical compartment that included beds and seats as well as washing and cooking facilities. In 1906, the Alsatian coach construction company de Dietrich & Cie. donated this model to the Berlin Transport and Building Museum. On the occasion of the International Hygiene Congress (1907), the model was augmented with an infirmary compartment by the main railway workshop in Tempelhof. Unfortunately, the interior furnishings have since been lost.
