49A Studies for the tombs of the New Sacristy

The sheet belongs to a larger drawing that includes also the 71A of Casa Buonarroti and the 1859-6-25-545 of the British Museum. In this autograph, Michelangelo is engaged in the study for the solution to be adopted in the realization of the tombs of the Medici in the New Sacristy. The several drawings on the sheet shows the options considered: an arched tomb on the right, a wall tomb in the middle and one centred plan, free from the walls, on the left.
