Among the two most gifted students of Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee left behind a body of paintings that purely celebrated nature. The most expressionist of Benodebehari Mukherjee’s paintings, there is brooding wildness to ‘The Bridge’. There is both a mystery and menace lurking in the untamed vegetation jostling against the structure of the bridge. The loose, vigorous brushwork in the painting generates a great deal of excitement.
