Report of the Television Committee

Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace
London, United Kingdom

Also known as the Selsdon Report after the Chairman of the committee, the Right Hon. Lord Selsdon KBE. The report was “To consider the development of Television and to advise the Postmaster General on the relative merits of the several systems and on the conditions under which any public service of Television should be provided.” The findings advised not to continue the low-definition 30-line service that John Logie Baird had developed and had been broadcasting with, but to pursue high-definition television. The report suggested that the two rival systems of Baird and Marconi-EMI be trialled at the first London station.
