Following the ongoing quarrel with the Leipzig council and the repeated interferences of the school’s provost into the responsibilities of the cantor, Bach writes his memorandum "Kurtzer, iedoch höchstnöthiger Entwurff einer wohlbestallten Kirchen Music“ (“Short but most necessary draft for a well-appointed church music") on August 23rd, 1730. His goal is to bring to the town council’s attention the consequences of the latest, musically antagonistic school policy, for example meddling in how the vacant seats in the St. Thomas boarding school are filled.
