New York City rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson III was a protégé of Run-D.M.C.’s Jam Master Jay, and got his mainstream breakthrough when Eminem heard his debut mixtape and included “Wanksta” on the soundtrack to 8 Mile. 50 was signed to Eminem’s Shady Records. 50 Cent wore this bulletproof vest onstage; he has routinely worn the protective garments since being shot outside his grandmother’s home in 2000.
