In his latest work, 50 years of dance, French dance sensation Boris Charmatz takes a book of photographs and turns it into a choreography. The piece is based on David Vaughan’s Merce Cunningham: Fifty Years, a richly illustrated biography of the great master of postmodern dance, who sadly died last summer. The dancers who all have been dancing in the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in various era move from photo to photo, bringing Cunningham’s lifework, as it is presented in the book, to the stage. A fitting tribute to one of the greatest choreographers of all time.
