56A Study of a ionic volute

The little sheet shows the study of a ionic volute and belongs to a series of six drawings of the same subject, all preserved in Casa Buonarroti. The different sheets shows the artist’s creative imagination that wonders himself among the forging ahead with different forms. It was assumed that these capitals studies were originally part of a single sheet subsequently cut into several parts. The whole of the capitals could have been designed for the project of the ciborium of San Lorenzo.
