Triumphant Athlete

Hayez painted the Triumphant Athlete for the "Concorso dell'anonimo" competition organised by the Accademia di San Luca in 1813, the theme of which was life-sized nudes. Hayez’s nude blends the lessons of ancient art and the heroic grace of Canova. For many years this painting was used as a model to be copied by the Academy’s students
