Dulwich Picture Gallery

Dulwich Picture Gallery
London, United Kingdom

This work relates to Murillo's great cycle of large landscape paintings on the theme of the Story of Jacob from the Book of Genesis. The scene captures the moment when Jacob sees Rachel standing by a well with her father's flocks and immediately falls in love with her. Probably painted by a contemporary within his circle in Seville, this painting was listed as by Murillo in the Britton Inventory of 1813.
