This gold jersey with a distinctive green hoop was worn by Wallaby Russ Kelly during the 1938 Test series against New Zealand. Traditionally, the Australian team played in green, but officials felt the colour lacked contrast with the All Blacks' black strip. As a result, the team switched to this alternative design for the series.
The jersey represents an early example of Australia's now-iconic gold rugby colours.
