In 1533 Ferrante Gonzaga commissioned to Sebastiano del Piombo a Pietà to give to Francisco de los Cobos for the church of San Salvador in Ubeda. In 1538 the painting, today in storage at the Prado Museum, had still to be realize and Sebastiano asked to his friend Michelangelo to provide him a preparatory model. The drawing in question shows a study for a male torso seated and for a right arm that Michelangelo should have improved in a second following copy, now in the Louvre.
