Who knew that the thing that would most upset people sheltering in the tubes during WWII would be the colour of the tea being served to them?! We were amused and delighted to find this gem in our collections as it not only evidences the ‘stoic wartime London’ narrative that’s grown over the years but also shows the sense of care that the organisation took towards those seeking refuge in its stations. The shelterers complaints weren’t only listened to, but a full investigation was launched and a solution found. No more discoloured tea would be served!
