The Martin Co. produced "Merry War, a Battle Game for Boys" in 1899, around the time of the American-Philippine war, which lasted from 1899 to 1902. The game consists of paper soldiers, spring-loaded guns and ammunition, to make a simulated battle. The most interesting aspect, to contemporary eyes, may be the game's title. It is difficult to consider any war as "merry" in the post Cold War era.
