There are two types of pankha; hand fan and ceiling fan. The ceiling fan is suspended from ceiling hooks. A rope is tied to the fan which is pulled manually for it to swing. The rope tied to the pankha was long enough for the person to sit outside the room and swing it allowing privacy for the users.
