The 8-cent Mail Order Business commemorative stamp was first placed on sale at Chicago, Illinois, on September 27, 1972.
Marking the 100th anniversary of the mail order business, the stamp features a rendition of a store from the 1870s time period. The concept of a mail order business was first implemented by Aaron Montgomery Ward in 1872 in Chicago. His concept remained popular until the advent of the internet, which allowed for a more efficient means of procuring goods from home.
The stamp was designed by Robert Lambdin and was issued in sheets of fifty, with an initial printing of 135 million.
