8c Rural Mail Delivery stamp

This stamp was one of the 8-cent Postal People stamps released nationwide on April 30, 1973. The ten stamps, printed on the same sheet, depicted services performed by postal people, the services ranging from the sale of stamps in a post office to the processing and delivering of mail. On the reverse of each stamp descriptive text was printed.

The usual practice of designating one city for the first day sale of a new stamp was not followed for the 8-cent Postal People stamps. As all post offices would provide April 30 cancellations, first day covers could be obtained in all cities and towns.

The stamps were designed by Edward Vebell and were issued in sheets of fifty, with an initial printing of 150 million.
