Released by Cinematronics in 1983, Dragon's Lair is an interactive movie arcade game animated by Don Bluth, an ex-Disney employee. The game is especially remembered for its use of laserdisc technology to overcome graphical limitations of traditional arcade games, which generally illustrated its characters as sprites. The comparatively large storage space of a laserdisc allowed the game to resemble an actual cartoon, which caused it to become extremely popular among gamers. Due to its advanced technology, it became one of the first arcade games to cost two credits for a single play instead of one. In game, the player becomes the knight Dirk, who is attempting to rescue Princess Daphne from the dragon Singe. The gameplay requires extremely precise timing, practically forcing players to memorize each scenario in order to successfully complete it.
