This tablet was given by Robert Thompson of Kilburn to Otley Urban District Council in 1968 to mark the 250th anniversary of Thomas Chippendale's baptism. It was displayed in the Council Chamber until OUDC was abolished in the local government reorganisation of 1974, whereupon it was given to the Chippendale Society. It is inscribed THOMAS CHIPPENDALE/BORN AD 1718/IN/OTLEY/THIS PLAQUE IS PRESENTED TO/OTLEY URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL/BY/ROBERT THOMPSON'S CRAFTSMEN LTD/TO COMMEMORATE THIS WORLD FAMOUS/CABINET MAKER. The edge of the tablet is carved with Thompson's trademark mouse.
