32 shophouses in Tanjong Pagar were restored to their former glory between 1987 and 1988, in the first ever project undertaken by the government to demonstrate that it was technically possible and commercially viable to restore our heritage shophouses. 9 Neil Road was restored as the sample unit that would set the standard for the other shophouses.
