A subtle intervention made directly onto the floor in a suite of rooms at the old Matarazzo Hospital. The idea stems from earlier works by the artist, which deal with the concept of ruin and its materialisation. Dust, which is always added to the space, is a recurrent feature of her works, as the mounting layers alludes to the passing of time. Upon visiting the Matarazzo complex, which has lain idle for over a quarter of a century, the artist noticed a blanket of dirt and grime on every surface and decided to invert her normal approach by removing a perfect fringe of dust along the skirting of the walls. The effects the interventions have on the order of events and on day-to-day conflicts are one of the main focal points in Cinthia Marcelle’s work. Her performances challenge traditional behaviour through good-humoured connections
