Ever since his 1997 debut collection, Gloomy Trips, Olivier Theyskens has been identified as a “gothic” designer. He admits that his early work was characterized by a certain “dark beauty,” but he is adamant that he was never inspired by goth subcultural styles.

This brilliant collection featured slender evening dresses in black lace, ribbon, and chiffon, some with draped headpieces or trailing capes.
