Left: Olivier Theyskens / Evening ensemble / Pink and white striped cotton / Fall 1997, Belgium / Lent by Oliver Theyskins
Ever since his 1997 debut collection, Gloomy Trips, Olivier Theyskens has been identified as a “gothic” designer. He admits that his early work was characterized by a certain “dark beauty,” but he is adamant that he was never inspired by goth subcultural styles.
