The two huge paintings on either side of the entrance to the Chamber were painted by Olaf Rude (1886-1957) in 1954. The Chamber is the heart of Christiansborg where representative government is put into practice. The gigantic, isolated oaks in the paintings are growing in a flat meadow with black and white and brindled cows grazing in between them. A number of granite boulders occupy the foreground and white spring flowers are emerging from the ground. The landscape is from Skejten in East Lolland. The paintings were a gift from the New Carlsberg Foundation to Parliament on the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Constitutional Act. Olaf Rude was one of the modern Danish artists at the beginning of the 20th century. Author: Lisbeth Bonde, M.A and art critic. Photographer: Torben Eskerod.
