Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico
Milan, Italy

The priest Giuseppe Buttironi (1722-1802), from Lecco, leaves 60,000 to the Maggiore Hospital. The assignment of the portrait is given to Giosuè Sala, called the Saletta, who creates four other portraits for the Picture Gallery, commissioned from him, all of which are captured in a single sitting. The benefactor with the well-characterized face and with a hand that holds the prayer book, has behind him a generic landscape background.
