Donetsk Serhii Prokofiev International Airport

Before you are the ruins of Donetsk airport, which was renovated for Euro-2012. Now it has become a lasting symbol of war and a vivid monument to the national struggle of Ukrainians. It is one of the oldest airports in Ukraine, founded in 1933. The last aeroplane to fly from here took off on May 26, 2014. The same year, it was captured and destroyed by the terrorists of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbas. The defence of Donetsk airport lasted for 242 days! Ukrainian soldiers who took part in this operation are now called ""cyborgs"".
