In the late 1960s, paper-doll maker Platt & Monk Company reissued doll sets with an educational purpose. Its "Early American Dolls" sets and "Betsy Ross" sets offered young girls a lesson in American history and an important story about Betsy Ross's contribution to the American Revolution along with paper-doll play. The company also encouraged girls to learn about other cultures and other people with its "Dolls of Far-Off Lands" sets and its "Dolls Across the Sea" sets.
