Artwork rationale:
For hunting a colour, I pursued the White Colour
White textiles fill the void and create a strong relationship between the body and space, creating a wave of movement.
White is a colour of movement.
White fabrics been always the base foundation to my collec tions as a designer, it’s the reflection of all colours, all visible rays of light, Sudan is a diverse country with 570 tribes, you can easily spot the white colour in all shades, from east to west, north to south, in our traditional Sudanese costume Toub and Jalabya, it complements our skin complexions.
Also white colour reflects the warms of the Sudanese people, they are known by their kind-heart and their generosity.
White colour is present, you see it on a daily life in Sudan streets, in all the ceremonies, joyful occasions and sorrow ones.
White garrmets are existing in resistance, in our history, in nostalgic memories, in our Sudanese Revolution, yet it’s a colour of peace.
What it means to be African:
To me being African is to be Pan-African that constantly believing in the depth of our diversity there is unity, to be African woman, artist and feminist, is my driving power of everyday struggles I face, I’m fortunate enough at the moment to study the African history through the lens of diplomacy and culture to reconnect with my African roots and to have an opportunity to contribute in its future with inclusive vision to establish a dialogue that connect the bridges between my fellow young generations with our ancestors, with our grandmothers our fathers.
