To store grains for longer durations, the doors of the kothi are often sealed with a layer of mud plastered over it. These seals are then broken to make the door operable when the grains are to be consumed. This kothi had an arrangement to lock the door using a metal rod passing through the holes in the shutter and the walls of the kothi.
