FOR FIRST PUBLICATION IN WEDNESDAY'S DAILIES. CLYDE YARD COMPLETES FIRST OF LARGEST BRITISH TANKERS. JS 10.12.1952. Now nearing completion in readiness for the launching ceremony on December 17th at Messrs John Brown's shipyard on the Clyde, is the 32,000-ton tanker "BRITISH SAILOR" the first of seven similar sized tankers for the British Tanker Company. The vessel will be the largest oil tanker ever launched on the Clyde, and will be the largest British owned tanker sailing the seas. Nearby in the same yard a start has been made on the second tanker, the "BRITISH SOLDIER" and they will make a valuable addition to the British Tanker Company's fleet bringing oil fron the Middle East to the refineries in Britain. This is one of a series taken illustrating their construction, and shows: The 32,000 ton tanker, BRITISH SOLDIER, in early stages of construction, seen through the morning mist at Clydebank.
